Kimyata Houston is making a difference in Mississippi read all about it
podcast interview for my first full film "Fatherless Child"
Kimyata Houston was born and raised in Clarksdale, Mississippi, where storytelling was a part of everyday life. Even as a kid, she was writing plays and making up movies in her notebook—long before she knew what a director really did. Writing became her outlet, and creating characters helped her process the world around her.
As she got older, that creative spark never faded. She decided to take a leap and study film, determined to learn everything she could about bringing her stories to life on screen. Now, after film school and years of writing and dreaming, Kimyata is preparing to release her very first full-length feature film, JU.
For her, filmmaking isn’t just a job—it’s personal. It’s about telling real stories, giving a voice to people often overlooked, and creating something that leaves a mark, while lifting up the name JESUS, bringing faith back to TV.
Kimyata Houston kicked off her film journey a few years ago, creating 30-minute short films called Smile and Hate to Love. She now has an upcoming film called JU coming out in the fall of 2025
